More than the environment: “Traditional views of sustainability predominantly concentrate on environmental concerns. But sustainability is more than just taking care of the environment. It’s a holistic approach to business that considers financial health, long-term ownership stability and social responsibility. Directors should advocate for a more comprehensive definition that acknowledges all these factors as integral to a sustainable business. While environmental stewardship remains vital, it should also contribute to the overall success and longevity of the organization by generating cost savings, establishing competitive advantages, and attracting and retaining top talent. These diverse dimensions of sustainability are interconnected and mutually reinforcing.”
