The criticality of KPIs: “In both public and privately owned companies, appropriately designed and meticulously verified key performance indicators (KPIs) are critical to building and enhancing trust and transparency between the board and management. KPIs are also critical to strategy development and execution. These financial and nonfinancial metrics provide management and the board with a framework and benchmarks that ensure both short-term viability and long-term value creation. The keys to ensuring long-term value enhancement are to include at least 20% nonfinancial measures with clearly stated financial and shareholder value creation goals. Common nonfinancial measures include customer satisfaction, employee engagement and product quality.”
